When Kia was little she would sometimes bathe at my parent's house. Because we usually didn't plan these baths my mom would have to scramble to find a clean something for her to put on. Usually she would pull out a t-shirt of my fathers. He had plenty as he often got free pocket tees from Menards - usually in a hideous blue color. These shirts were huge on Key - there was no problem with this shirt being Keyanna's nightgown. The understanding is that I'd return it after I got Keyanna home and in her own nightgown. Most of the time the tee did make it back to mom and dad's but sometimes it would get forgotten about.
To know my dad is to know these pocket tees. To know these pocket tees is to know my dad.
When my dad passed away my mom couldn't part with a few things. These items were put in a special drawer in her dresser. His watch (that STILL goes off at 9am), his wallet, his keys, and a few Papa shirts. We also have three papa shirts here that didn't make it back to them. Keyanna still wears them as nightgowns.
Yesterday Keyanna put on the green papa shirt and came out of her room. Something strange has happened though -- it no longer is long. Sometime in the past years either the shirt has immensely shrunk or is it that my Keyanna has grown? When did this happen?
Keyanna is probably a summer away from being my height. She already is rivaling my mom for who's taller.
I wish the original wearer of the papa shirts were here to see it.
